Two of the three lanes on the $155-million project opened in time for the Monday morning commute. The bridge isn't quite finished yet, as more work is necessary on the north side of the bridge that can't be completed until the old Walterdale Bridge is closed. The city expects to have all three lanes open in October. The new bridge's sidewalk is also not completed yet, while crews complete sidewalk connections between existing paths and the new structure. Officers were called to the building near 94th Street and 111th Avenue around 2 p.m., police said in a news release Monday evening. Homicide investigators have since been called to the scene. An autopsy has not been scheduled. Police said the investigation is in its preliminary stages and no further information will be released at this time. Nexhmi "Nick" Nuhi, 76, was found dead inside the same residence on Wednesday. An autopsy conducted Friday determined that Nuhi died from a gunshot wound. About 500 residents live at the Shepherd's Care Millwoods Campus at 66th Streeet and 28th Avenue. Many rely on services at the nearby shopping plaza for groceries, medication, banking and emergency medical care. But as of Friday, the northwest sidewalk was closed. Pylons, a barricade and a concrete barrier all blocked access to eastbound pedestrians. "At the moment, they're marooned on this block," said James Nattriss, a Shepherd's Care resident, adding he was not aware of advanced warning so seniors could plan ahead. "Are we expected to starve since we can't get off the block at all?" Read the full article at CBC.ca Edmonton |
